As we follow Jesus on this pilgrimage toward the kingdom of God, we encounter many obstacles along the way. The temptations and attacks of the devil, the allure of and rejection by the world, as well as the comfort of our own sinful nature, all seem to conspire together to muddle us up, beat us down, and draw us away from the Lord. Whether our particular weakness is physical, mental, emotional, vocational, spiritual, or some combination of these, we are in good company. The prophet Ezekiel, the apostle Paul, the 12 disciples, and countless other saints have suffered and traveled this way before us with joy. Jesus himself promises to all who follow him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
